Disposable Cup Fee On Hold Amid Health Concerns

Watsonville has waived the 10-cent disposable cup fee due to concerns about the role reusable cups could play in spreading coronavirus.

WATSONVILLE, CA — Watsonville businesses are required by a city ordinance to charge a 10-cent fee for disposable cups in an effort to reduce trash levels, but the city has waived that requirement in light on concerns about the new coronavirus.

This week coffee giant Starbucks announced it would temporarily stop allowing customers to have drinks poured in their own reusable cups due to concerns about the role that personal cups could play in the spread of coronavirus.

Reusable cups will not be accepted, the city announced Thursday.
