First 2020 Baby Celebrates Parents' Anniversary In Monterey Co.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — The first baby born in 2020 in Monterey County was a boy at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital who the best-ever anniversary present to his proud parents.

Baby Isaac was born at 1:23 a.m. to Melissa Rangel and husband Edger Valdez, according to hospital officials. Isaac was 8 pounds, 7 ounces and 19 inches long.

"We didn't expect him until January 7th," Rangel said in a statement. "He's beautiful and we feel very blessed.

“We never expected to have him be the first baby of the New Year,” said dad Edger Valdez. “But for his birthday to be the same day as our anniversary, what are the odds of that?”

Isaac is the couple's third child. Thanks to Facetime, he quickly met his older siblings, 4-year-old brother Mateo and 3-year-old sister Emma.

Both parents say their family is now complete, and unless there are any more surprises, their final count for children born at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital will hold steady at three.
