A local teenage girl was selected among the top rising talents to participate in an international science fair where she ranked number two in the world, KSBW reported.
Ailis Dooner is only 16 years old but has now participated in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair twice - admission for which is highly competitive, limited to 1,600 students across the globe.
“Going to ISF is a lifelong dream,” Dooner told KSBW. “I was super surprised to hear that I qualified.”
Not only did she participate, but Dooner placed second in biochemistry for her work on human gene protection for lung cancer prevention as well as her work on sea anemones. Her school isn’t surprised by Dooner’s success.
“Passionate, dedicated, hardest worker I’ve ever had,” Jason Maas-Baldwin, Dooner’s science teacher at Carmel High, told KSBW. “Her work is meticulous.”
If that weren’t success enough, MIT is naming an asteroid after Dooner. She said she’s already working to prepare for next year’s fair.
