Luis Alejo Proposes Marriage on Assembly Floor

She said yes, in case you were wondering.

Watsonville's first-time Assemblyman Luis Alejo made waves at the Capitol on Monday, though it wasn't for any political reason.

The 38-year-old proposed to his girlfriend of seven years, Karina Cervantez, on the Assembly floor, according to an Associated Press report on the Mercury News.

The Watsonville planning commissioner and doctoral candidate in social psychology at UC Santa Cruz said yes, then fellow Assemblyman Bill Monning (D-Carmel) handed Alejo the diamond ring the junior state representative had asked Monning to hide earlier, according to the Capitol Alert blog on the Sacramento Bee.
