Man Faces Attempted Murder Charge After Watsonville Shooting

The shooting followed a botched robbery attempt, police said.

WATSONVILLE, CA — A man has been charged in connection with a June 18 shooting following a robbery-gone-wrong, police said.

Jibril D. Abdi, 18, faces felony charges of second-degree murder, second-degree robbery and assault with a gun on a person, Santa Cruz County jail booking records show. He is held in lieu of $675,000 bail, the Watsonville Police Department said in a statement.

Abdi is accused of firing shots at a Watsonville man sitting in a parked car along Rio del Pajaro Court, police said. The man was hit once, drove himself to the hospital and is recovering.

Abdi has previously faced a firearms charge and remains on probation for that incident, police said. He was arrested late Wednesday night at his Blackbird Circle home by the Watsonville police Special Response Unit and Santa Cruz Police Department Emergency Services Unit.

Police also served a search warrant.
