Man Shot to Death in Watsonville

The killing happened near Ramsay Park.

A man was shot and killed near Ramsay Park in Watsonville on Friday afternoon, a police lieutenant said.

Shortly after 2 p.m., officers responded to a report of a man with a gun in an area known to have homeless encampments behind 999 Main St. near Watsonville Slough, police Lt. Saul Gonzalez said.

As officers were dispatched to the scene, a victim with a gunshot wound was reported, Gonzalez said. Officers arrived to the area and found the man suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Gonzalez.

Emergency crews pronounced the man dead at the scene, the lieutenant said. The victim appeared to be a homeless man in his late 20s to early 30s, according to Gonzalez.

His identity is not being released until his family is notified of the death, Gonzalez said. No suspects or arrests have been made in the shooting, which is the second homicide in Watsonville this year, he said.
