SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA β€” Friday marked the grand opening of the new South County behavioral health facility, which the county says will increase access to behavioral health and primary care services for people of all ages. It will serve as a base for services and programs, such as the county's first mobile mental health unit for children and young adults.

The mobile unit, staffed by bilingual and monolingual medical professionals, targets young people from ages 5 to 21 and offers mental health crisis intervention and stabilization services. It was funded thanks to a $416,000 state grant. Watsonville and other areas will be served by the mobile office.

Sixty-two percent of all youth clients served by County Behavioral Health live in the South County region, according to county officials.
