Rep. Luis Alejo Wants Higher Minimum Wage

The Assemblyman for Watsonville and Gilroy is pushing for a 50 cent increase.

A bill that proposes raising the minimum wage 50 cents, to $8.50 an hour, will be heard by a state Assembly committee Wednesday, thanks to Rep. Luis Alejo, according to KSWB Action News 8.

Alejo, who represents Watsonville and Gilroy, first proposed the wage hike last spring. California's minimum wage currently is $8 an hour and hasn't increased in four years.

Employees working for minimum wage were supportive of the proposal, according to KION Central Coast News, while one employer said the costs would simply be passed on to customers.
