A bill that proposes raising the minimum wage 50 cents, to $8.50 an hour, will be heard by a state Assembly committee Wednesday, thanks to Rep. Luis Alejo, <a href="http://www.ksbw.com/r/30118284/detail.html" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">according to </a><a href="http://www.ksbw.com/r/30118284/detail.html" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">KSWB Action News 8</a>. Alejo, who represents Watsonville and Gilroy, first proposed the wage hike last spring. California's minimum wage currently is $8 an hour and hasn't increased in four years. Employees working for minimum wage were supportive of the proposal, <a href="http://www.kionrightnow.com/story/16407779/central-coast-lawmaker-fights-for-minimum-wage-increase" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">according to KION Central Coast News</a>, while one employer said the costs would simply be passed on to customers.
