'Rooftop Burglar' Busted By K-9, Police Say

WATSONVILLE, CA — A man dubbed the "rooftop burglar" has been arrested on suspicion of two local commercial burglaries in which an offender gained access to the building through its roof, police said.

Fermin A. Sanchez, 33, faces seven charges related to burglaries, loitering, trespassing, jail records show. He was booked into Santa Cruz County jail last week, where he remains.

Early in the morning of Aug. 25, Watsonville police were dispatched to Cabrillo College after a burglar alarm went off, police said. K-9 Axel tracked him down, hiding on the second floor, police said.

Sanchez had been sought in connection with a rooftop burglary at nonprofit Salud Para La Gente earlier in August, police said. Last year he was arrested on suspicion of committing at least five similar crimes within the span of a month, police said.
