Man's Body Found Underneath Hwy 101 In Gilroy: Sheriff's Office

Breaking: The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office is asking for "the public's assistance in forwarding any information regarding this case."

GILROY, CA -- The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of a man's body earlier this week in a creek bed underneath U.S. Highway 101 in an unincorporated area of Gilroy.

A land surveyor reported finding the body at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday underneath both the north- and southbound lanes of the highway, east of Monterey Frontage Road and west of Bolsa Road, according to Santa Clara County sheriff's Sgt. Richard Glennon.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives, crime scene investigators and the Santa Clara County medical examiner's/ coroner's office responded to the scene.

The body showed signs of being at the location for an extended period of time, Glennon said.

Medical examiners are conducting an autopsy to determine how the man died.

"We are not releasing any further information on the deceased until we can confirm their identity and
notify their next of kin," Glennon said in a statement issued at about 3 p.m. Thursday.

"We are asking for the public’s assistance in forwarding any information regarding this case," he said.
