School Board Makes Cuts, Plans to Take Them Back
Positions will be cut, but the laid-off staff will likely be rehired for other jobs.

More than 80 positions were cut bu the Pajaro Valley Unified School District board of trustees on Wednesday night, but school district administration anticipate every person laid off this spring will be rehired before the end of the academic year.
The school board approved cutting 8.25 classified positions and 77.70 certificated personnel.
"It's never fun to do this but it's nice to be in the position we're in," said school board chair Leslie DeRose. "It's good news to know we think a lot of these will be rescinded."

Also, no positions paid for by general fund are on the chopping block, according to Dr. Albert Roman, the assistant superintendent of human resources at PVUSD. All of the jobs lost comes from categorical funding the school district receives from the state, according to Roman.
The reductions are significantly lower than recent years. One classified representative at the school board meeting noted these are the least number of classified jobs cut in the past five years.

The reductions are necessary because there are statutes set for notifying employees about layoffs: March 15 for certificated employees and 45 days notice for classified employees.
"Every person who's being noticed will get a job offer from us in June," Roman told the school board.
Roman said other personnel changes are tough to make until state voters weigh in on Gov. Jerry Brown's tax initiatives, which would reinforce school funding sources.
