School District Hires New Assistant Superintendent

Sharon B. Roddick, a Watsonville High product, will take over Human Resources.

Pajaro Valley Unified School District product has been named the new Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, school district officials announced Thursday.

Sharon B. Roddick fills the vacancy left by the departure of , who left PVUSD in the spring for a position in Southern California. Roddick comes from the San Jose Unified School
District where she was Director of Human Resources.

“PVUSD is fortunate to bring to this key position a person who is acquainted with this community and who understands the diverse population we serve,” PVUSD Superintendent Dorma Baker said.

Roddick was raised in the Pajaro Valley. Her mother taught math at . Roddick attended , EA Hall and graduated from . Sheearned an Associates Degree from Cabrillo College and a multiple subject credential from San Jose State University.

“I am humbled by this extraordinary opportunity to serve the students, staff and community of the Pajaro Valley Unified School District,” Roddick said. "My childhood and K-12 education was nurtured here in the Pajaro Valley. I recall the influence of many educators in my life, and the opportunities for developing the person I would become."

Roddick started as a classroom teacher and also has been an assistant principal and principal. Baker said she thought this would help Roddick collaborate and work as a team with PVUSD staff. She also has experience with negotiations, which will be important in working with the school district bargaining units.

"It is a privilege to return and be able to continue the development of an excellent workforce—one that will educate, nurture and
positively impact the current students of PVUSD," ,” Roddick said.
