Shooting Leads To Standoff In Watsonville: Police

The man eventually surrendered, police said.

WATSONVILLE, CA — A man was taken into custody after a shooting led to a standoff Saturday in Watsonville, according to police.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired just before 7 p.m. near Riverside Drive and Marchant Street, and learned 49-year-old Sandro Vega had been seen outside a home on Marchant Street holding a rifle, police said.

Several law enforcement agencies went to the home and asked everyone inside to come out, which Vega did, but he stayed in the front yard and refused to follow commands, according to police. After about 30 minutes, he surrendered, police said.

Detectives found multiple guns in the home, according to police. Vega was booked into jail on charges including assault with a firearm, brandishing a gun and negligent discharge of a weapon, police said.
