Silent Auction Makes Some Noise
The staff from Bay Federal Credit Union's Watsonville branch helps raise funds for Children's Miracle Network.
The kids from the Children’s Miracle Network received a little boost into their charity box thanks to a small silent auction that took place at the in Watsonville on Thursday night.
A little over 20 people showed to support the event that was put on by Watsonville’s Bay Federal Credit Union branch manager Laura Owen and her staff.
Even with a small crowd on hand, Owen was still pleased with those who were able to make an appearance to Thursday’s silent auction.

“I’m really excited about the turnout,” said Owen. “I’m really happy with the kind of people that came out. And some good bidders, so we’re making some good money.”
The items up for bid included wine bottles, gift certificates, purses, and shoes. However, folks were more interested in the grand prize, a trip to Las Vegas, which was raffled off at the end of the night to the lucky winner Christina Che.

Also at the auction was a table full of delicious food with goodies like party mix, cupcakes, green salad, various fresh fruits, pesto pasta, and clam chowder. Both the pesto pasta and the clam chowder were a donation courtesy of 99 Bottles in Santa Cruz.
As people walked from table to table and placed their silent bids, Owen was busy with meet and greet sessions along with keeping the crowd entertained. And luckily, Owen had help from guitarist Salif Kone and DJ N9NE of Sonido Koko Loko who provided the guest with some music.
It was the fourth year in a row that Owen hosted the event to help out the little guys and this time her goal was to reach the $5,000 mark, but came up short. Still, she managed to come up with a significant amount of $1,200 that should help out either way.
