Soledad Man Pleads Guilty To Elder Abuse Of Father

When the father was transported to a hospital, it was discovered ulcerated sores he had were infected with maggots inside of them.

SALINAS - A Soledad man pleaded guilty Thursday to felony elder abuse for neglecting his elderly father, according to the Monterey County District Attorney's office.

Prosecutors said Ralph Garcia, 55, was the caregiver of his 85-year-old bedridden father in August of 2014 when officers conducted a neglect investigation and discovered numerous large, open ulcers to the victim's hips and lower back area.

As a result, he was transported to the hospital where it was discovered the ulcerated sores were infected with maggots inside of them, according to prosecutors.
