Suspected Lottery Ticket Scammer: New Video From Watsonville PD

The latest video surveillance offers a better look at the woman, who along with a male accomplice, is suspected of swindling residents.

WATSONVILLE, CA — New surveillance footage obtained by Watsonville detectives provides a better look at a woman who allegedly swindled thousands of dollars from a Watsonville resident by claiming to have a “winning” lottery ticket.

The suspect is seen here entering a store with the victim on the morning of Oct. 11. Detectives believe the suspect, wearing a white baseball cap, is in her 50s and is a Spanish speaker. The suspect also has an accomplice, a male suspect believed to be in his 50s who was wearing a gray hat and shirt during the incident.

The duo convinced the victim to hand over nearly $6,000 after telling her they were unable to cash the lottery ticket because of their legal status. The victim finally handed over money to the swindlers in exchange for the scam ticket, according to the Watsonville Police Department.

The suspects drove off in a silver Chrysler Pacifica, and detectives have heard from numerous residents across the Central Coast regarding similar scams, according to the Watsonville PD.

"Many times, these crimes go unreported because the victim feels embarrassed," the Watsonville PD said. "However, it’s extremely important for folks to come forward so that we can investigate and try to find these crooks."
