Watsonville Company Among Most Admired In 2020: Fortune

See which Watsonville company topped Fortune's list in 2020.

WATSONVILLE, CA — The business magazine Fortune has released its annual list of the most admired companies in the world.

Apple took the top spot on the list for the second year in a row, with Amazon and Microsoft rounding out the top three.

Granite Construction

Granite Construction was founded in 1900, when granite was discovered in a quarry that its owners purchased to mine for gold, according to its website. The site, known as the Logan Quarry, hired 15 men who earned $1.75-per-day, for each 10-hour shift.

Today Granite Construction is a S&P 400 Index member with headquarters in Watsonville and Texas, and numerous private and public transportation projects under its belt.

To be considered on the list, a company has to either be one of the 1,000 largest in the United States by revenue, or a company based outside the United States in Fortune’s Global 500 database that has a revenue of $10 billion or more.
This assortment of companies was subsequently narrowed down to include the 680 highest-revenue companies in each industry, such as computer software, entertainment and real estate.

The overall rankings were then compiled by Forbes in partnership with the management consulting company Korn Ferry by surveying executives, directors and analysts in their own industry.
