Watsonville DUI Checkpoint Planned This Weekend

WATSONVILLE, CA β€” A DUI checkpoint will take place beginning Saturday in an undisclosed location of Watsonville, police said.

The checkpoint will be in place from 6 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday at a location with a history of DUI crashes and arrests, the Watsonville Police Department said. Officers will look for signs of drug or alcohol impairment.

Watsonville police remind the public that they should not drive after consuming cannabis or taking over-the-counter drugs that have warnings about operating heavy machinery or driving.

DUI drivers face about $13,500 in fines and penalties on average, police said. Licenses are also suspended.

Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a California Office of Traffic Safety grant.
