Watsonville Man Killed In Thanksgiving Weekend Car Crash

He was pronounced dead at the scene after crashing into a wood fence and several trees.

AMESTI, CA — A Watsonville man was killed in a car crash in the early hours of Friday morning, officials said.

The California Highway Patrol determined the 33-year-old driver was killed around 12:30 a.m., but the crash was not discovered until 9:30 a.m., according to a CHP news release. The crash occurred on private property off of eastbound Amesti Road, east of Cypress Lane.

CHP arrived to find his 1998 Volkswagen Beetle was seriously damaged. The driver was the lone occupant of the car and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CHP.

Investigators are unsure of his speed, but believe he tried to make a dangerous turn and lost control, sending him onto the south shoulder of Amesti Road. He then crashed into a wood fence and several trees, according to CHP.

CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash and has not ruled out the influence of drugs or alcohol.
