Woman, 19, Killed In Hwy 129 Crash ID'd As Watsonville Resident

The accident was Monday near the Santa Cruz County border.

A woman killed in a two-car collision Monday on state Highway 129 in San Benito County east of the border with Santa Cruz County has been identified as 19-year-old Rufina Villacensio-Martinez of Watsonville, according to the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office.

Villacensio-Martinez was a passenger in a 2003 Hyundai driven by a 27-year-old man on westbound Highway 129 around 3:50 p.m. Monday, California Highway Patrol officials said. He drove across the road’s double yellow lines and collided with a 2006 Ford traveling east at about 50 mph, CHP officials said.

The Ford driver, a 48-year-old Watsonville man, was unable to stop and struck the Hyundai’s passenger side, according to the CHP.

Emergency crews found Villacensio-Martinez, who they pronounced dead at the scene about 20 minutes later, CHP officials said.

The Hyundai driver from Oxnard, a city in Ventura County, suffered major injuries while the Ford driver had minor injuries, according to the CHP.

Both drivers were transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas for treatment, CHP officials said. Investigators are working to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision, according to the CHP.
