• The century-old Sacramento Weir is expanding. When will the flood gates be ready? (abridged.org) — A major expansion of the Sacramento Weir, just north of West Sacramento, is running a year behind schedule but officials say it won't raise local flood risk this El Niño winter. The project will add about 1,500 feet of new, mostly passive gates to relieve pressure on levees protecting communities like West Sacramento and Sacramento. Construction is now expected to finish by December 2027, with funding already secured.
   

• Davis opening trash contract to competition. Could Recology be replaced? (sacbee.com) — Trash collection in Davis is under review, and city leaders are eyeing West Sacramento's lower trash rates as they weigh whether to keep Recology or open the contract to competitors. West Sacramento recently chose a competitive bidding process of its own, but faced community pushback. Davis officials say they'll seek extensive public input before deciding on a new contract by 2027.
