1 Dead in La Brea Crash (Updated)

[Updated Sept. 17]: 

 A person who was killed when a sport utility vehicle crashed into a tree has been identified as Darrell K. Mervin, 49, of Los Angeles, according to Lt. Brian Elias of the Los Angeles County Coroner's office. Mervin was driving north on La Brea on Thursday morning and struck a tree on the side of the road. His vehicle ended up on the sidewalk. There were no other injuries were reported.

A driver was killed Thursday when the car struck a tree on La Brea Avenue south of Santa Monica Boulevard shortly before 6 a.m. The vehicle was a 1998 Mitsubishi  Montero, according to Sgt. Tressa Gunnels from the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station. The name of the person has not been released. Twitter user @msberryjuice snapped a picture of the accident earlier this morning.
