12-Year-Old who Drowned in Hollywood Motel Pool Dies Today

UPDATED at 3:27 p.m. with new details: A 12-year-old girl who showed no signs of life when she was pulled from a swimming pool at a Hollywood motel, along with her mother and brother, was declared dead, police said today.

The girl was identified as Gemesis Rosales, a coroner’s spokesman said.

Gemesis and her 11-year-old brother got into the trouble in the pool at the Hollywood Premiere Motel, 5333 Hollywood Blvd., on Aug. 4 and their 36-year- old mother went in after them, authorities said.

The trio were eventually pulled out of the pool by a passerby and taken to hospitals. The boy later started breathing on his own.

Today, the boy was said to have stable vital signs, and his mother, initially reported to be pulseless and not breathing, was listed in serious condition, Los Angeles police Officer Sally Madera said.
