Air Conditioning Explodes at Weho Condo Complex, Burning One

A person suffered second-degree burns today in an air conditioning explosion at a condominium complex in West Hollywood, authorities said.

Someone reported seeing white smoke and dust, possibly from an explosion, about 2:15 p.m. at a two-story condominium complex in the 900 block of North Kings Road between West Willoughby Avenue and West Romaine Street, said Inspector Rick Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Firefighters found the burned patient, who was taken to a hospital for treatment, Flores said.

They determined there was a explosion an air conditioning unit, which leaked a small amount of ammonia, he said.

No evacuations were ordered, Flores said.
