📰 News we're reading

1. West Hollywood Sheriff's Reports Crime Drop in Several Categories – Rise in Shoplifting, Pickpocket Cases (wehotimes.com) — July crime numbers in West Hollywood show an overall drop in major offenses, but shoplifting and pickpocketing—especially in the Rainbow District—remain stubborn problems. Sheriff's deputies logged faster emergency response times, active DUI enforcement on key corridors, and notable declines in hit-and-runs and vandalism. Residents still face rising grand theft shoplifting and a spike in pickpocket incidents without corresponding arrests.

2. West Hollywood Public Safety Commission Votes to Bring Discussion on Camera Surveillance Back to City Council (wehotimes.com) — West Hollywood's Public Safety Commission has voted to reopen discussion of the city's Flock camera contract and broader surveillance policies, responding to resident concerns about privacy and misreads. Commissioners want City Council to revisit rules for automated license plate readers, fixed cameras, and a not-yet-deployed drone program. Another commission meeting is set for Sept. 28 in West Hollywood, with more public input expected.

3. John Erickson Slaps Former Political Opponent with Cease-and-Desist Letter Following Burner Account Allegation (wehotimes.com) — West Hollywood Councilmember John Erickson has sent former state Senate rival Zennon Ulyate-Crow a cease-and-desist letter over social media allegations tied to an anonymous Instagram account. The clash, which Erickson disputes, has drawn wider media attention and raised questions about online campaign tactics, evidence standards, and how far local candidates will go in increasingly combative races.

4. EARSHOT Releases New Single And Video LOVE LEFT Via Judge &… (broadwayworld.com) — Alternative rock band Earshot has released a new single, "Love Left," and will bring it to West Hollywood with an October 5 show at Whisky a Go Go. The song and video explore finding a spark of hope amid anxiety and grief, while the band's fall tour spans major rock festivals and club dates nationwide.
