When I think of BBQ restaurants, I usually imagine (and plan for) messy fingers and smothered sauces stimulating my taste buds and smearing my cheeks and I almost always associate it with dinner. To my pleasant surprise, Baby Blues BBQ in West Hollywood offers a lunch menu with savory selections as, dare I say, climactic as their dinners.
I sampled the BBQ Tri-tip, Memphis Ribs, Blackened Catfish and Grilled BBQ Tiger Prawns topped with a New Orleans style Remoulade. Among the choices of sauces, I had to go with the XXX to compliment my experience. The Tiger Prawns were my favorite and I’d likely warn guests at the table to be wary of their fingers if they didn’t want them bitten off while considering reaching for my plate. I felt similarly, but not quite as passionate about the ribs because of style choice over quality, but it was a tough call between the two. The Tri-Tip and Catfish were great, but I was busy filling up on the first two so my perspective was skewed and stuffed. I’ll have to give them a second…or third tasting to be sure. (wink)
Having been a server for several years in my youth, I have a fondness for quality service and attentive staff. I was quickly taken by the friendly staff at Baby Blues as soon as I walked in and I didn’t have to wait or ask for water when I was seated. I’m a big fan of being served without giving direction and my server seemed to know what I wanted even before I did.

Of course, the test of all tests when it comes to impressing this Michigan raised pallet comes in the form of good ole’ fashioned corn bread. Okay, I admit I’m a Personal Trainer and wouldn’t recommend this as a side dish to my weight loss clients, but there’s plenty of protein packed selections for them and I wasn’t cutting calories so I devoured mine with the delight of a child having mom’s home cooked recipe.
The atmosphere is one where I can relax and enjoy my meal and have a casual business meeting at the same time. In this digital age I find that a pretty big perk and I enjoyed the afternoon crowds’ energy as much as the ability to hold a conversation with my lunch mate.

Rick McCarthy and Danny Fisher opened Baby Blues BBQ in 2004 because they came from a family of BBQ and Soul Food restaurant owners and simply wanted to bring the best BBQ to those who craved it. They’ve since won Zagat, City Search, Los Angeles times and Best of City awards multiple years in a row and continue to build a reputation for being one of the best BBQ Restaurants in town.
Baby Blues BBQ is located at 7953 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046 in the heart of West Hollywood. Their menu is packed with delicious, orgasmic selections with an atmosphere that promises good times and mouth-watering memories. All in all, I’d say they come highly recommended in my book.
