Where are the Stars of the Occupy Movement?

Occupy movement lacks star power.

What’s interesting (or not) in the “Occupy” movement around the world is the lack of visible movement figures, like musicians John Lennon or Bob Dylan, who were defacto leaders in previous protest movements. Kanye West did arrive one day in New York two weeks ago—in bling, no less. That doesn’t do it for me.

Where are the freedom fighters that stir public debate, hold concerts for the cause, and get free media play? Someone has to humanize the damn thing so it doesn’t look like freeloaders occupying public space for thrills and free food.

Most observers don’t even know the agenda of the Occupy Movement (if there is one). That’s because they don’t have a recognizable public voice to present it to the media and to the public.

Are today’s music stars too timid to split their audience by taking sides in a movement against big, global corporations, which includes music companies?
