City Style: Dan Robaire the Aspiring Actor with Standout Style

This resident with a comedic edge tells Patch how to stand out when it comes to a first impression.

Meet Dan Robaire, an actor with a comedic edge and a fun sense of style. Aspiring actors may be a dime a dozen in this city, but Robaire still finds a way to stand out. He shows Patch that a little quirk and a lot of charm can go a long way—in fashion and entertainment.

West Hollywood Patch: What are you wearing?

Dan Robaire: A big mishmash of different things. My T-shirt is from Zara, cardigan's from Gap, jeans by All-Saints and Converse high tops. Oh yeah, and the glasses are made by D*C. The necklace is from this awesome little store, Pyrrha Jewelry in the Beverly Center.

Patch: How would you describe your style?

Robaire: I don’t know. I just like to look cool and casual, and like models (he says jokingly, laughing). Cool and casual I guess.

Patch: How do you stand out for the right reasons in West Hollywood, especially as an actor?

Robaire: Being an actor in Hollywood/West Hollywood is nuts. People are so judgmental. Everyone is in competition with each other. You really need to make your mark and stand out. It is all about finding a couple of unique pieces and matching them up with other cool, more mainstream stuff.

Patch: How important is what you wear?

Robaire: What I wear is super important. It sort of lets people know who I am before I open my mouth, at which point I usually put my foot in my mouth, so basically my outfit is my only hope.

Patch: Do you think Weho has influenced your taste or sense of style?

Robaire: I feel like the environment you live in or hang out in is a huge influence on what you wear. It is hard not to compare yourself to other people, and I mean, I get a lot of fashion ideas from the other people around me. So, yes, in short.

Patch: What are your go-to shopping places around town?

Robaire: My god, I have so many. I like mainstream places for simple stuff, like Gap and H&M, and then I like to check out funky boutique places, like the stores on Melrose, to find more one-of-a-kind [stuff] to spice up my look.

Patch: What recent purchase are you excited about?

Robaire: I actually bought a new pair of argyle socks from Express. I know, boring, but they're orange and gray, so I thought they were pretty cool.

Keep an eye out for Patch's fashionista Hillary Povar around town. She is on a mission to document the fashion in Weho and to find out how living in the famed city influences what you wear (or not).
