Coroner IDs Fairfax Shooting Victim

The 27-year-old died at the scene of the shooting, which was reported about 5:45 p.m. Monday on Melrose Avenue near Sierra Bonita Avenue.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA – The 27-year-old man who was gunned down in the Fairfax district was identified by the coroner's office Wedensday. Damien Scott Jr. of Los Angeles died at the scene of the shooting, which was reported about 5:45 p.m. Monday on Melrose Avenue near Sierra Bonita Avenue, and the killer remains at large.

Scott had been arguing with a man who pulled out a gun and fired several shots at him, according to Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department's media relations office. The suspect, who was driving a black SUV, was last seen traveling east through an alley just south of Melrose Avenue, Herrera said. He was described a 5-foot, 10-inch black man between 20 and 25 years old, wearing a dark jacket, according to the LAPD.

Police are unsure whether the shooting was gang-related.
