crosswalk killings

There has always been one thing that the city council has done very little about…. and that is our residents being struck down in the crosswalks.

Other cities like Santa Monica have imbedded lights in the pavement, and put caution bump plates on the street in addition to blinking signals.

I was a first responder to a crosswalk killing in another city and I can tell you that it’s not pretty. I can’t get those images out of my head.

I challenge you seven people sitting in front of me to stop dragging your feet and do something before another killing  happens because of your apathy. As it is now you have the blood of everyone who was struck down in crosswalks on your hands and you can never wash that away.

Jon Duran and John D’Amico said in a council meeting on January 21st that we should speed up traffic and they were more concerned about cars having rear end bumps at crosswalks than residents being killed.  Who cares if one careless driver rear ends another careless driver at a crosswalk if it means saving a life?

The traffic should be slowed down while travelling through our village. In fact the speed limit is 30 mph east of La Cienega but jumps to 35 west of it which means people are going at least 45 through boys town with no sheriffs patrol.

My hope is that when you, City Council members, go home  and place your heads on your pillows for a good night’s sleep you  are reminded of the visions I still think about…. a dead body on the street, blood, guts, brain matter, severed limbs, projected eyeballs, but most important the loved ones that the victim has left behind as a result of your allowing killings on the streets of west Hollywood to continue and I hope you retain those images until your hearts and minds decide to do the right thing.

Crosswalk safety cannot wait. It  must be expedited. There is no reason that another person should be killed on the streets of West Hollywood. The next victim could be someone you love.

It’s time for new leadership in West Hollywood.  Let’s vote the current City Council out.
