Fairfax High Boys Third at City Track Finals
The Lions score 29 points to tie El Camino Real behind Dorsey and Birmingham.

The Los Angeles City Section Track & Field Championships took place Thursday afternoon at Birmingham High in Lake Balboa and Fairfax High tied for third overall in the boys team competition.
The Lions accumulated 29 points to equal Woodland Hills El Camino Real but well behind champion Los Angeles Dorsey (110 points). Host Birmingham totaled 36.5 points to finish second out of the 32 scoring teams.
In the first event of the day, Fairfax took sixth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 42.76 seconds and earning one point. Dorsey won in 41.58, followed by Carson (42.16), Birmingham (42.21), Locke (42.46) and Palisades (42.59).

Fairfax senior Chad McDaniel was third in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.96 seconds behind winner Justin Bowie of Birmingham (14.58) and Khaleel Green of Dorsey (14.89). McDaniel's effort scored six points for the Lions.
In the 400-meter dash, Fairfax sophomore Billy Vaughn came in fifth in 49.47 behind winner Rashard Clark of Dorsey (47.45), Chris Mitchell of Birmingham (48.06), Greg Veals of Dorsey (48.25) and Ronny Hall of Narbonne (49.08). Vaughn scored two points towards the Lions' team total.

Senior Terrence Hall scored eight points with a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash. His time of 10.96 was second only to Marvin Hall of Dorsey (10.87).
McDaniel doubled back in the 300 hurdles and took fourth in 40.63, earning the Lions another four points. Saul Sanchez won the event in 39.84, followed by Charence Lander of Eagle Rock (39.92) and Bowie (40.06).
In the 3,200-meter race, Robert Amador was 12th in the field of 16 in 9:49.08 and did not finish high enough to score points. Omar Cortes of Santee won in 9:26.13.
Fairfax picked up eight points in finishing second in the 4x400 relay in 3:19.74 behind only Dorsey (3:19.15). Carson was third in 3:19.89.
The Lions did not score any points in the field events. Fairfax also did not score points in the girls competition.
McDaniel and Hall qualified for next week's state meet in the 110 hurdles and 100, respectively. McDaniel just missed qualifying in the 300 hurdles.
