Fairfax Players Named to All-League Squads

It was a disappointing season by the Fairfax High boys varsity basketball team's lofty standards, but several Lions had stellar seasons and have been recognized for their efforts on the court.

Junior point guard Landon Drew and senior center Laik Carter were voted to the All-Western League First Team for the Lions, who finished fourth in the league standings and lost to rival Westchester in the quarterfinals of the City Section Division I playoffs.

David Nwaba of University and Trevone Williams of Westchester shared the Most Valuable Player honors and Donovan Johnson of Palisades was voted the Most Outstanding Player.

The Fairfax girls won the Western League title and reached the semifinals of the City Division I playoffs. Four Lady Lions have been chosen First-Team All-League: junior forward and captain Brittany Byrd, sophomore power forward John'ea Thompson, junior forward Danah Haley and junior point guard Angelique McDaniel.

Thompson paced Fairfax in scoring at 13.5 points per game, Haley led in both rebounding (7.8) and blocks (1.3), McDaniel led in assists (3.3) and Byrd led in steals (2.8). Senior guard Carmen Bealer made the girls' Second Team.

Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies teammates Ea Shoushtari and Taylor Holeman were voted co-MVPs.
