A Hanukah Special Film Presentation, Beneath the Helmet, Highlights the Human Angle of Preparing Youth to Become Adults in the Israel Defense Forces

Hollywood Temple Beth El, in conjunction with Media Group International, is screening the new Israeli documentary, Beneath the Helmet, on the second night of Hanukah, Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 7:30 PM, at the synagogue on 1317 N Crescent Heights Blvd., West Hollywood. The evening will highlight Families of Lone Soldiers- Los Angeles a support group for Angelinos who are serving in the Israel Defense Forces as well as Q&A with the film makers. The Consulate General of Israel and the Israeli American Council are honorary sponsors of the event.

Beneath the Helmet: From High School to the Home Front is a new feature-length documentary film from Jerusalem U, the creators of the PBS-featured documentary Israel Inside: How a Small Nation Makes a Big Difference. Beneath the Helmet is a coming-of-age story that highlights five young Israeli high school graduates, who are drafted into the army to defend their country. At the age of 18, away from their homes, family and friends, these young individuals undergo a demanding journey, revealing the core of who they are and who they want to be.

The filmmakers were granted an unprecedented access into the lives of these young people, which allowed them to create a unique and intimate documentary that brings to the screen rarely seen human faces to the men and women who are the soldiers of the Israeli Defense Forces.
