Here's How To Celebrate Women's Equality Day Tomorrow

The City of West Hollywood will be hosting it's annual celebration of Women's Equality Day tomorrow at the Council Chambers.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA – The City of West Hollywood and its Women’s Advisory Board is hosting the City’s annual celebration of Women’s Equality Day tomorrow, Friday, August 18, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room. This year’s event will commemorate the 97th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote in 1920, the press release said.

“Women’s Equality Day is not just a celebration of the anniversary of women’s right to vote,” said City of West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman in a statement, “it’s also an affirmation of the City of West Hollywood’s strong commitment to advocate for and support legislation to protect women, to guard reproductive rights and access to healthcare, and to fight for full equality under the law.”

There will be a screening of "Equal Means Equal," a documentary about the status of women in America, directed by Kamala Lopez, a reception with light refreshments and a panel discussion about current efforts to pass the Equal Rights Amendment will follow the screening. This event is the first of many"Equal Means Equal" film screenings to be held across the country to launch the new Equal Means Equal initiative to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment.

Guest speakers will include: Director Kamala Lopez, Founder of Women Occupy Hollywood Ivana Massetti, Director/Producer of The Empowerment Project Sarah Moshman, and Carla Romo, member of the City of West Hollywood Women’s Advisory Board and documentary filmmaker, among others.
