On May 27th, the Mexican Foreign Secretary Jose
Antonio Meade Kubriena, will address the Los Angeles World Affairs Council over
a dinner. Secretary Meade has served as the chairman of Petroleos Mexicanos, has
held various senior positions in the Ministry of Finance, and is also a
professor of economics at Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico. Secretary
Meade will be discussing Mexico’s
economic and political initiatives since the presidency of Enrique Pena Nieto, including
a recent vote to end the 75 year state-owned monopoly on oil, reforming the
banking and telecommunications industries, and capturing key drug lords. He
will also be discussing future economic reforms, as Mexico
pushes to become an investment friendly nation with a strategic position as a neighbor
to the United States.
