Hotel Throws Weed Stash Away, Angry Pot-Owner Opens Fire

He left behind some of his belongings in the hotel room, including the marijuana, and the West Hollywood hotel staff disposed of them.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA – An aggrieved man opened fire outside a Sunset Strip hotel in West Hollywood Tuesday evening after the hotel threw his marijuana away, authorities said. The incident occurred about 8:30 p.m. near the Mondrian hotel at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Olive Drive. No one was injured, according to ABC7.

The suspect, who is in his 30s, had been a guest of a hotel patron Monday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. He left behind some of his belongings, which included a bag of marijuana, and hotel personnel got rid of the drug per the Mondrian's policy, ABC7 reported.

A dispute between the suspect and hotel staff ensued, and the man was told to leave the hotel, according to KTLA5. As he was leaving, he shot four or five rounds into the air, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Charles Duncan.

“We had originally seized some items that had been left in the hotel,” Mondrian Hotel manager Luis Saldana told CBS2. “Upon seizing these items and informing him of it, he got disgruntled and our hotel security team were great in reacting quickly.”

The man then got into a silver hatchback waiting at the curb. The car, driven by a woman, was last seen heading east on Fountain Avenue, according to KTLA5.
