Michael Becker, a photographer of the world and resident of West Hollywood, is opening his “Israel: Then and Now” exhibit at Congregation Kol Ami this Friday, April 11th at 8 pm. Becker’s images of the public spaces of Israel seem at once remote and intimate. Public monuments displayed in sepia tones evoke the layered history of the subjects, but the photos are anything but dry artifacts. With Becker’s dramatic lighting, reflected sunlight beckons like neon signs and ink-dark shadows, weighted by a century’s worth of secrets, lure the eye.
Admission is free. All are welcome. Kol Ami services will begin at 8 pm. Exhibit opening and reception will follow.
