This CA Restaurant And Celebrity Hotspot To Close

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA — Sushiya, a restaurant frequented by celebrities in West Hollywood, is closing later this month, the business announced earlier this week.

“Sushiya invites friends, neighbors, night owls, longtime guests and everyone who carries a memory of Sunset Plaza to come in one last time for sushi, cocktails and late night service, to raise a glass, share a memory and say farewell,” the restaurant said in a statement posted Monday on Instagram.

Opened in 1998, the Sunset Boulevard sushi spot has drawn a mix of celebrities, industry regulars, tourists and neighbors, and has been filmed by movie and television crews shooting along Sunset Plaza outside as well as in the restaurant. Famous customers have included Rihanna, Leonardo DiCaprio, Stevie Wonder and John Travolta, according to the California Post.

Sushiya is one of several businesses that have recently announced closures in the area, along with Employees Only, another spot popular with celebrities, as well as Electric Owl, The Belmont, and Connie & Teds, according to the Post.

“A lot of the businesses are struggling to break even because the cost of living is rising and the rent is rising,” according to Sofi Mamo of A Divine H20, who spoke to the Post.

Sushiya’s last day open will be Sept. 29.

“If only the walls could speak, they would certainly have a few amazing stories to tell,” the restaurant said in the statement.
