Lady Lions Roar into City Semifinals
The Fairfax High girls' basketball team beats Taft 64-49 in the Division I playoffs.

Halfway to its championship goal, the Fairfax High girls' basketball team has yet to be seriously challenged in the City Section Division I playoffs.
The third-seeded Lions (25-8) outscored Woodland Hills Taft in each of the first three quarters on their way to a 65-49 quarterfinal victory on Wednesday night, giving them a crack at defending champion Carson in the semifinals on Friday.
Junior forward Danah Haley had a huge game for Fairfax, scoring 24 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and stealing two passes. Sophomore power forward John'ea Thompson added 18 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and three steals and Angelique McDaniel added 10 points and four assists.

Western League champion Fairfax led 32-17 at halftime and widened the gap to 54-29 entering the fourth quarter. The 11th-seeded Toreadors (8-16), who finished fourth in the West Valley League, upset sixth-seeded Granada Hills Kennedy in the first round last Friday.
Fairfax now takes on the second-seeded Colts (15-10) Friday in a semifinal showdown scheduled for 7 p.m. at Carson High.
