Barricaded Man Arrested After Standoff In West Hollywood

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA – A man was arrested by a sheriff's SWAT team Tuesday after barricading himself with a gun and firing shots from a West Hollywood apartment for hours, according to reports.
Shortly after noon, the man barricaded himself in the apartment near Sunset Boulevard and Doheny Roadand was throwing items from his balcony in the 900 block of Doheny Drive at the street below, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Police could be heard in videos from the scene telling the suspect to surrender, and the man was heard yelling back. Flash-bang grenades were detonated at one point during the situation, and deputies eventually used chemical agents to get into the building.

The "belligerent" man lived on the first floor of the building, according to a notice sent to residents that was posted on Twitter. A neighbor told KTLA that the man suffers some sort of psychiatric issue and requires medication.
A crisis negotiation team, a K-9 and deputies from nearby stations were called to help with the barricade situation, the news station reported. LASD officials suggested people nearby stay inside and lock their doors. Residents of the building were told to avoid the lobby and elevator.

At about 5:30 p.m., sheriff's officials announced that the suspect was taken into custody. No deputies were hurt during the incident. Traffic was thoroughly affected into the late afternoon due to the incident.
