You’ve seen comedian Maz Jobrani on Showtime with his comedy special Brown and Family. You’ve also seen him as founding member of The Axis of Evil Comedy Tour which aired on Comedy Central. And you might have seen him acting on shows like the Knights of Prosperity, Better off Ted and Life on a Stick. Now’s your chance to see him live on stage at the . Jobrani does shows at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Shakespeare in the Park

Take a bit of thwarted romance, add in some cross-dressing, secret identities, witty wordplay and a healthy dose of overall silliness and you’ve got the makings of a great play. In this case, the great play is Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. The Classical Lab Theater performs the beloved play as part of the city’s Shakespeare in the Park series. The comedy plays today-Sunday at 4 p.m. in . Admission is free.

Gang Member

In his bestselling memoir, Always Running, Luis J. Rodriguez chronicled his early life as a Chicano gang member surviving on the streets of East Los Angeles. Now in his latest book, It Calls You Back: An Odyssey through Love, Addiction, Revolutions, and Healing, Rodriguez recounts his attempt to start over at age 18 after his final stint in jail and almost a decade of gang life, his struggles with rage and addiction and his challenges at being a father. Rodriguez discusses and signs copies of his book at 4 p.m. at .

Olympic Games

German documentarian Leni Riefenstahl is known both for her incredible cinematic style and her Nazi propaganda films like Triumph of the Will. As Adolf Hitler’s favored filmmaker, Riefenstahl was given a huge crew and an unlimited budget to film the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. The result was a cinematic masterpiece of visionary filmmaking taking viewers from the sidelines into the middle of the competition, celebrating both German nationalism and the human body. The Silent Movie Theatre at 611 Fairfax Avenue screens Olympia at 3:45 p.m.
