Planning Commission

El Mirador apartment building on Fountain Avenue at Sweetzer is on the Planning Commission’s agenda. The 83-year-old, 7-story, 32-unit Spanish Colonial Revival building is seeking approval to renovate and become an urban inn or a condominium complex. A second item on the agenda is a proposed two-story, 23,000 square foot retail and wholesale showroom building to be built at 8711 Melrose Avenue (at San Vicente). The third item on the agenda is the proposed automated parking structure scheduled to be built behind City Hall. The Planning Commission meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chamber in the .

Healthcare for Seniors

A counselor from the Center for Health Care Rights will discuss changes to Medicare as well as programs that can help pay for healthcare for seniors. Sponsored by the city’s Senior Activity Department and Jewish Family Services, the meeting is at 2 p.m. in the Community Center in . Free for everyone. Making of Animal House

Find out what went on behinds the scenes of the 1978 raunchy comedy Animal House, which was made for $3 million and grossed $600 million. Author Matty Simmons conducted interviews with director John Landis, producer Ivan Reitman and stars Karen Allen and Kevin Bacon, plus got access to all sorts of production-related papers, to put together a fascinating account of how the film came to be. Simmons discusses and signs copies of his book, Fat, Drunk, and Stupid: The Inside Story Behind the Making of Animal House, at starting at 7 p.m.
