Thursday's Scoop: Tim Allen, Arts Grants and Planning Commission

Buzz Lightyear and Tim Taylor

What do Buzz Lightyear, Santa Claus and Tim ‘The Toolman’ Taylor all have in common? Actor/comedian Tim Allen who returns to his stand-up roots for a show at the . Once you see Allen on stage, you’ll understand why he became a star. He’s joined by Erik Rivera and Frazer Smith. Showtime is 8 p.m.

Arts Grants

The city’s Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission will host an Arts Grant Workshop at 6 p.m. in . The workshop will review and answer questions about the 2013 Arts Grants Program application process and grant requirements.

Planning Commission

The city’s Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber in the One of the items on the agenda is an application to change the conditional use permit for the (8226 Sunset Blvd.) from a restaurant to a bar. Another item is a request from (7750 Santa Monica Blvd.) to relocate the business to the vacant space next door.

Sunset Strip Market

The Sunset Strip is the happening place on Thursday nights thanks to the , a certified farmers’ market that also features live music and cooking demonstrations. This week the Market will include a special chef dinner presented by Rosa Mexicana Live music is by Fleeting Heart, Frankie Palmer and Anny Celsi. Open 5-9 p.m., the is in the old Tower Records overflow parking lot, just east of Horn Avenue.

  • The V.U. with the Nukes, Orkyd and Highborn at the Roxy Theatre. Show starts at 7:30 p.m.
  • Vinnie Ferra with The Janks, Pan America, Crass Mammonth and Decode Radio at the Viper Room. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
  • Farr Beyond Driven with Jamie Alimorad, All Ages Assault, Riot Act, More than Reason and Hour 11 at the Whisky a Go Go. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
  • Elzhi at the Key Club. Doors open at 8 p.m., show at 8:30 p.m.
  • Soul Asylum with Trapper Schoepp & the Shade at the Troubadour. Doors open at 8 p.m.
  • Bruce in the USA (Bruce Springsteen tribute artist) with Jessica Sokolove at the House of Blues. Doors open at 8 p.m., show at 9 p.m.
