Tuesday's Scoop: Avenues Neighborhood Meeting, Women's Book Club and Sketch Comedy

A neighborhood meeting dealing with beautifying Melrose, Robertson and Beverly meets, while the Women and Books book club talks about a Suze Orman book. Plus sketch comedy at the Laugh Factory.

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Tuesday, May 1, the 122nd day of 2012. Here’s what’s going on in West Hollywood today.

Avenues Neighborhood Meeting

There’s a neighborhood meeting dealing with the Avenues: Art, Fashion and Design District. This is the second meeting of a Community Stakeholders group addressing ways of beautifying Melrose, Robertson and Beverly. The group will meet at the at 3:30 p.m. and then go on a neighborhood walking tour to examine streetscaping possibilities (trees, benches, new streetlamps, etc.) for the three streets. Women and Books

The monthly Women and Books book club, meets to discuss the May reading – Money Class by Suze Orman. Financial advisor Kelly Alexander will facilitate the discussion which starts at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the . Admission is free. The Women and Books book club was created by the city’s Women’s Advisory Board with the stated vision of “transforming a city into a community one woman at a time.”

The Wedding Beat

What happens when a reporter writing a wedding column for a NYC newspaper meets the woman of his dreams only to have her slip away before getting her number? In the new novel The Wedding Beat, he searches Uptown, Midtown and Downtown without success only to run into her again at her wedding. That’s the premise of the zany, hip and bittersweet novel by New York Times reporter Devan Spiher, who discusses and signs copies of The Wedding Beat at 7 p.m. at .

Etch a Sketch

It’s a night of sketch comedy at the as some of the LA’s best comedy groups come together for some crazy antics. Super Kudzu, Bonafide, Nerdvana and Up, Up, Up! are on tap to appear, starting at 10 p.m. Tony Sam serves as host.
