Rising British singer-songwriter Ben Howard is gearing up for his American breakthrough thanks to a new tour coinciding with the US release of his praised debut album “Every Kingdom.” You’ve been hearing him regularly on KCRW, but here’s the chance to see Howard live as he performs today-Wednesday at the . Women and Books

The monthly Women and Books book club, meets to discuss the June reading – We Need to Talk About Kevin: A Novel by Lionel Shriver. Despite the deceiving first name, Shriver is a prolific female author and journalist. We Need to Talk About Kevin deals with a woman coming to terms with her disintegrating marriage and career in the aftermath of her 16-year-old son going on a shooting spree. The discussion starts at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the . Admission is free.

Alzheimer’s in Verse

Sometimes prose doesn’t tell a story as effectively as poetry. In the case of her memoir about her mother’s Alzheimer’s disease, Judy Prescott has put everything to rhyme, thereby capturing nuances that might have been missed otherwise. Each poem is accompanied by artwork contributed by members of the Prescott family. Prescott discusses and signs copies of Searching for Cecy: Reflections on Alzheimer's starting at 7 p.m. at .
