Tuesday's Scoop: Nashville Performers, Independent Filmmaking and Storytelling

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Tuesday, July 24, the 206^th day of 2012. Here’s what’s going on in West Hollywood today.

Country music has long had a tradition of crafting songs “ The idea is that a group of singer-songwriters gets on stage; one performs a song, followed by the next, and the next, etc. As each plays, the others are often inspired to add harmonies, a guitar riff or some percussion. This process often enhances the work or takes the writer in a new direction. Witness this in-the-round process first-hand as Genghis Cohen has veteran Nashville songwriters Jane Bach and Sandra Piller take the stage, joined by Kelly Fitzgerald and Joey Sykes. Independent Movie-Making

With Hollywood increasingly focused on the bottom line and making action films that appeal to a global audience, smaller, more thoughtful movies done by independent filmmakers have grown more important for telling a range of stories. Author David Spaner chronicles the story of the independent filmmaker in his new book Shoot It!: Hollywood Inc. and the Rising of Independent Film. Still Storytelling

Author Rob Bell offers a night of storytelling with his special program, “Still Painting.” Know for his humiliatingly painful and charmingly funny stories, Bell offers the program in conjunction with the paperback release of his book, Love Wins. The storytelling begins at 7 p.m. at the .
