Voxhaul Broadcast to Perform Psychedelic Show at Sunset Street Festival
The indie rock band's bassist shares highlights from recent tours and talks about the success the band has had—all without the help of a record label.
Spandex, neon lights and pure psychedelic rock—it's all the makings for an epic Sunset Strip Music Festival show.
Voxhaul Broadcast, an indie rock band that hails from Orange County, has been on the radar of music aficionados from LA to the UK, where the guys did a stint of shows in May. On Aug. 20, the quartet joins an exciting lineup at the Key Club.
Deemed “one of the best new indie bands” by LA Times Magazine music expert Nic Harcourt, the guys recently supported The Airborne Toxic Event and Rooney on the road and wrapped a commercial with Lance Armstrong.

In between prepping for their SSMF show and focusing on writing new tunes, which they are hoping to release later this year, bassist Phil Munsey II made time to chat with Patch.
West Hollywood Patch: Voxhaul Broadcast's show at the Sunset Strip Music Festival is less than a month away. You guys pumped or what?

Phil Munsey II: We are always excited to play and meet new people. I want to see Motley Crüe. I think it will be hilarious!
Patch: The four of you have been friends since you were kids. How has the band developed through the years? What is your dynamic?
Munsey: It was kind of like evolution. [Front man] David Dennis writes the lyrics, but I've been around him now for like 16 years, and I see the memories and struggles of life in his lyrics. It's like mentally watching an abstract movie of life all around him, us.
Patch: You were on the road recently with Rooney. How was that experience?
Munsey: It was pretty awesome. One night I rode on their bus, so I could make a cameo appearance during their Dallas morning show acoustic performance, and I ended up doing the interview as one of the members and then proceeded to play air drums during their performance. We also had the pleasure of touring with the amazing Airborne Toxic Event. Those guys are true folks. That was truly a tour I won't forget.
Patch: What is your favorite song you perform and why?
Munsey: Depends on my mood. “Sleepless Dreamer” is a fun one, so is “Backrooms” and “Loose Chains.”
Patch: You recently did a contest at an indie film fest where you let an up-and-coming film director produce your music video. How did that experience go and is the video done?
Munsey: To be perfectly honest, it was terrible. First, they started off their pitch with, "So they told me last night I need to make this by today." There was no follow-through. We decided to let our friend make one for us instead for our single, "Leaving on the 5th."
Patch: What's been the greatest accomplishment you have had as a band so far?
Munsey: I think being together this long is an incredible accomplishment, but other things would be getting our music on TV and film. The recent tour with Tate was pretty big, and all this is without a label.
