Wednesday's Scoop: Haim, Woody Guthrie and Female Comedians

LA-based sister trio Haim performs at the Mondrian Hotel, while the Weho Library has a show devoted to Woody Guthrie's music, plus a female comedian showcase makes jokes at the Laugh Factory.

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Wednesday, July 18, the 200th day of 2012. Here’s what’s going on in West Hollywood today.

Rapidly ascending on the area’s music scene, Haim has won over audiences with its rousing folksy, R&B pop sound. Composed of three sisters – Este, Alana and Danielle – Haim seems destined for the big time. The trio is best experienced first hand to truly understand how they captivate audiences. Here’s a chance to do just that as the sister act plays the starting at 8 p.m.

Woody Guthrie Music

Folk singer-songwriter Woody Guthrie may be best known for “This Land is Your Land,” but he also has a huge catalogue of songs including many children’s songs like “Goodnight Little Arlo (Goodnight Little Darlin')." The Friends of the sponsor a special Guthrie-themed family hour at 3:30 p.m. Award-winning music producer, singer-songwriter and Guthrie family friend, Frank Fuchs, will perform Guthrie songs accompanied by Carl Byron on accordion The event is free.

Female Comedians

It’s a night of estrogen filled laughs as the hosts an all-female comedian showcase starting at 7 p.m. Ketra Long, Katie Manzella, Lauren Brenner, Leslie Jones, Paula Bel, Cocoa Brown and Kimberly Clark are among the comics scheduled to perform.

Transportation Commission

The Transportation Commission meets at 7 p.m. in Items on the agenda include an update about the proposed and a discussion about pedestrian and crosswalk safety. The public is welcome to attend the meeting.
