A WEHO Original! Not Fence, Nor Fresco, It's A New Genre of Art
"The Turret" Is Temporary Art of Substance by artist, Miss Brightside; It Popped Up Yesterday, at Sta Monica & Crescent Heights: Sublime
Here's a partial description of the 550-foot installation one can read in further detail on the City Of West Hollywood's website :
"A visual love letter to the turrets of West Hollywood
and celebrates the City’s architectural history through
watercolor, pen, and ink illustrations fabricated on 55 colorful
vinyl banners."
Who even thought to count turrets, not to mention, make a serious claim, that Weho "is home to more turrets per person than any other city in the world," as Miss Brightside has done?

This seems as if it would be one of the most engaging treasure hunts in the history of architecture, perfectly suited to a car culture already immersed in detailing beauty. Wherever Waldo is, leave him be, I would have guessed there were more stirrups than turrets in this town, but I never said I was to the manor born..perhaps you couldn't hear me at such heights of rarified glass tower air, as I bellowed the details of my life in lieu of manners, or perhaps you were taking a shower. I would urge the artist, and especially, the City of West Hollywood, to reconsider calling this work of art a mural. It seems to be the physical equivalent of "A Bridge" for the homeless...an installation of substance that provides a true sense of place and belonging, a beautiful but short term residence. Kudos to Weho Arts for choosing the perfect location- it is on the way to and from West Hollywood, coming and going from virtually everywhere else, Los Angeles, even the San Fernando Valley via Laurel Canyon....

There is no more beautiful way to say, "YOU'RE IN WEHO!"
Since it masks a real estate development in progress, it's like an artist's smock, protecting the senses and sensibility of West Hollywood residents, from a work in progress. It doesn't pretend to be everlasting, but it is no less impeccable than any other serious work of art.
I truly believe it's neither mural, nor wall, nor a wrap by Christo, I think it should be called something brand new:
"The Brightside Bib."
The installation is scheduled to be displayed through October 2019.For more information, please contact Rebecca Ehemann, the City of West Hollywood’s Public Art Coordinator, at (323) 848-6846 or at rehemann@weho.org.
