Wilshire Finance Partners Announces 2014 Scholarship Winner

Wilshire Finance Partners, Inc., a Los Angeles-based real estate finance and investment firm, announced that Rodney Savannah has been awarded a $2,500 scholarship to continue his studies at the University of Southern California. Savannah is a pre-med junior at USC.

According to Donald Pelgrim, chief executive officer of Wilshire Finance Partners, the company worked in partnership with South Central Scholars and the Los Angeles County Medical Association to identify several worthy candidates for the award. Savannah was selected based on his demonstrated dedication to his studies and his commitment to entering the medical field.

As a high school student in Los Angeles, Savannah participate in the Latino and Africa American High School Internship Program (LA-HIP) at the Saban Research Institute of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. LA-HIP provides student interns with the opportunity to receive additional education and training while contributing to medical research in a controlled laboratory environment.

“Although we were impressed with several of the candidates for this award, Rodney’s outstanding scholarship and determination to reach his career goals really impressed us,” Pelgrim said. “Rodney is currently carrying a full load at USC and also working to support his mother and sister. Attending pre-med classes at USC is challenging under any circumstances, but Rodney demonstrates uncommon focus and the ability to overcome whatever obstacle may come his way. We are proud to award this scholarship to him and look forward to watching his progress in the medical field.”

Pelgrim and other Wilshire representatives presented the scholarship to Savannah at a recent student training session conducted by South Central Scholars on the USC campus. Pelgrim said the call for candidate entries for the 2015 Wilshire Finance Partners Scholarship Award is scheduled for April with the winner announced in June.
